We are now taking orders for native plants.
We have a good supply of manuka, flax, cabbage tree, karamu and grasses/sedges, all suited for mass/regeneration planting.
Our plants have all been grown from seed sourced in the local area. The majority were planted in spring 2025, and are 50+cm tall. Plants are in trays of 28, and are ready to be put in the ground.
LARGE PROPERTIES
If you have a property larger than 20 hectares it may be worth your while engaging with Kaipara Moana Remediation (KMR), which may give you access to financial assistance for your planting. See the KMR website ( kmr.org.nz ). A different pricing scheme may apply.
SMALL PROPERTIES
If you have a property smaller than 20 hectares you can still get plants from us but you will need to pay $35 for a tray of 28 ($1.25 per plant) before you come to collect them, using internet banking. There is a discount of 10% for orders of ten trays or more. An OHS membership fee of $10 per household is also required.
2026 PRICE
Repeat buyers will note we have not increased the price of our plants this year. We strive to keep plant costs as low as possible, and price to provide the financial stability which will ensure our continued service to our community and for the benefit of our harbour.
ELIGIBILITY
- We have expanded our property eligibility to include all of the Kaipara catchment, with a preference for the old Otamatea Council area, ie from Ruawai to Mangawhai.
- The purpose is for planting alongside waterways or erosion-prone land in the Kaipara Harbour catchment, not to satisfy a resource consent condition
PLANT VARIETIES AVAILABLE
The majority of our plants are for primary regeneration planting, and include
- Manuka
- Flax
- Cabbage tree
We also have good numbers of:
- Carex secta (sedge)
- Karamu
- Cyperus ustulatus (umbrella sedge)
COLLECTION AND PLANTING
This is your responsibility. We are happy to give advice if required. Autumn planting is best done once the air temperatures eases, and soil has moisture, and rain is regular (eg May onwards).
