The planting programme – its happening tomorrow!
It’s a shame the weather we are having today isn’t what has been forecast for tomorrow – apparently we are in for rain overnight with showers clearing some time in the morning before a heavier dose on Sunday. I guess its just that time of year, so Bryce, Aneta and I have decided to go ahead with it tomorrow. To find the site, head about 2km down Marohemo Rd, and there will be a gate with our sign alongside it just before the one-lane bridge. The planting area is downstream from the bridge. We’ll start with a briefing at about 9 o’clock by the road and take it from there. Gumboots and raincoats would be sensible equipment, along with a spade and gloves, although we do have some excellent planting spades available as well, thanks to Fonterra Grassroots programme.
Nursery happenings
Not much going on in the nursery at present, although I did prick out a few kahikatea and kanuka seed yesterday. I have collected some manuka for seed as well. I think a working bee next week would be good to keep on top of the seedlings. And Google has helped clarify for me that the little plants in the mahoe trays are actually mahoe, not weeds! From what I had read, they were supposed to take about 2 months to germinate, and they took about 2 weeks!
